On a paid plan, verify your phone number in Phone assistance. The Takeaway can call you first and connect you to another number, or you can merge its recording call into a conversation already in progress. Merging requires carrier support. Get everyone’s permission before recording; an announcement and tone mark the start. You get notes after the call, rather than live answers over the phone.

We use Deepgram speech-to-text with smart formatting, punctuation, and speaker diarization. Results vary with microphones, accents, background noise, and overlapping speech, so Takeaway keeps the timestamped transcript editable instead of promising a fixed accuracy percentage.

Yes. Record a lecture with your microphone or upload a recording, and get the key concepts, questions asked, and what’s due, each linked to the moment it was said. Free covers sessions up to 30 minutes. Full-length lectures and the Training meeting type, which organizes material into study notes, need Pro. Check your school’s recording policy first.

Yes. With a connected provider, Takeaway can send a recording bot to Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet, then process the completed recording. You can also capture browser or desktop audio and upload mp3, wav, mp4, m4a, webm, and ogg files.

Meeting content is private by default. Direct-recording audio stays in private storage for playback for 7 days on Free or 90 days on Pro and Team; Enterprise retention is custom. Account deletion removes it sooner. Explicit share links provide token-scoped access.

They should, and telling them is up to you. The Takeaway reminds you to get consent before you record. On phone calls, everyone hears a short announcement and a tone. A meeting bot joins as “The Takeaway Assistant” and posts a note in the chat. Recording laws vary by place, so check what applies to you.

Pro users can export summaries, action items, and transcripts to Markdown, JSON, text, PDF, DOCX, print, or retained audio. Takeaway also supports explicit share links and connected delivery to Notion, Google Docs, OneNote, Evernote, Linear, and Trello.
